For a heterosexual woman, I have a lot of girl crushes. I thought I’d make a bit of a feature out of this ‘Woman Crush Wednesday’ malarkey, and start off by talking about two women that are heavily involved in social media, and inspire me no end. They are actual #goals.
Zanna van Dijk
You may have read my last post about not feeling like a health/fitness blogger compared to other girls out there (and if you haven’t, then get on that here). In it, I wrote about not having abs and flicky hair. Well Zanna does. She’s over six foot tall, blonde, half-Dutch and has a fabulously lean body. She is the epitome of the term ‘fitness blogger’, which is something she should be incredibly proud of.
The reason I follow Zanna so religiously, though, is not for the way she looks, but for her brains and her personality. She’s a fellow Yorkshire lass, she got a First in her degree, and now she’s making a name for herself down in That London (okay, I’m fully aware that I sound like a stalker). She’s a girl that has her fingers in a lot of pies- I can’t wait to get my hands on her book at the end of the year!
Zanna’s not afraid to speak her mind and get a bit sweary on her snapchat and YouTube channels, which is something I love her for all the more, because keeping up to the ‘clean-cut’ blogger image is a bit tedious for us potty-mouthed gals. She always seems to be educating herself, and she’s inspired me to start listening to Podcasts, which is something I’d never even considered before. All in all, she’s a pretty sound lass, and is someone that proves that you can have both brains and beauty.
I’d never even heard of Iskra up until about a month ago. And yet, she has completely changed the way I view my body. That sounds dramatic, stupid even, because I clearly don’t know the girl; but the positive energy that she puts out over her social media accounts is incredible.
Up until a few weeks ago, I was aspiring to look like Zanna (again, she’s gorgeous, why wouldn’t I want to look like her?). However, I wasn’t being realistic- for a kick off, I’m five foot stumpy four. Iskra has bigger boobs, bigger thighs and a bigger bum. Granted, her waist is much smaller than mine is, but she’s certainly a more realistic image to have in mind when trying to improve my body.
Reading Iskra’s posts has taught me that it’s okay not to look like everyone else (which is part of the reason I wrote Monday’s post), and her #everyBODYisbeautiful campaign is inspiring her millions of followers: she is sure to remind them that photoshop is definitely a thing, often posting unedited photos of herself. She’s raw and she’s real, which is why she made it into this post.
Something that both these young women have is confidence. They have confidence in themselves, and they’re confident that they can help other people, too. And if that doesn’t warrant a bit (a lot) of a crush on them, then I don’t know what does.
